summer project

It would not be summer without a project for me to do. I found this apothecary tool box at a great yard sale, it was in need of a little touch up, you know me by now, I love things that are very primitive! I just had to sand some of the chipped paint and pick my favorite color (black) to change the color! I know it has some missing pieces but that is what makes it primitive. The paint went on pretty good and with a light sanding around the edges, it really came out nice! I really love it! Painting all those drawers was time consuming but results are truly rewarding. Check it out!

Take something old

I like to take something old and reuse it, like this old dresser that is pretty beat up but still has lots of charm and character. I just added some color and gave it a new life. So don't throw away those old pieces, reuse it and have some fun with it!

Retirement party in the neighborhood

Pat and Paul had a hard time keeping the balloons still and cutting the cake at the same time! The cake was soooo delicious! Thanks Pat for buying it at Giant Eagle.

We could not decide where to put the Congratulations banner so we stuck it between the two tables...I am jealous Ann, I wish it was me retiring at such a young age. Enjoy life now you deserve it!

On Friday night we had a retirement party for one of our neighbors. It was a great time with good friends and good food.

Burton Antique Market

Went to the Burton Antique Market this weekend with my friend, Dawn and her daughter, Abby. Here are some of my great finds. I can stop the search now for my third spice cabinet. I found it after searching the market for over an hour in the hot sun but it was worth it. I got it for a steal, of course, I had to add my own touch to it with paint and distressing it to look more primitive. Also, the little table was just so cute..it was found in a new shop in Burton, Ohio downtown. I also had to paint it to my own taste. It had two holes on the second shelf but with a little wood puddy, they are now gone (that was another reason why I had to paint it). I just love the little drawer in the front. It was such a great day going to the market with Dawn and Abby. They took me to some other quaint places in the surrounding areas. We had lunch at Mary Yoder's (famous Amish restuarant). Then hit a country store and had more fun with a simple $3.99 whoopie cushion! I never laughed so much that day.

Neighborhood 2011 Memorial Day picnic

Our Memorial Day neighborhood picnic was great fun! As you can see from the top picture our three great chef's at work! The hamburgers turned out delicious despite the fire!

Primitive sale

I stopped at some primitive sales this weekend and found some great stuff! I just love the stone bee hive, it is really popular today and can be found in country decorating magazines and real primitive shops. I have seen them in Southern Ohio made of stone and straw type material. Great for outdoors or in. I thought the small ironing board with the light green patina was adorable to put my pots on or can be used for my crocks in the kitchen. I was surprised to find it for sale, the lady did not want to part with it last year! I do not know what I am going to do with the red cubby box I found, I just liked it...might put on a cabinet. Gardens

I love to use unusual things to put flowers in rather than the same ol' clay pots, like the small blue shelf with the drawers and the black shoeshine box, really neat stuff you can pick up at garage sales or flea markets for almost nothing and bring them back to life with flowers. I also like to use ladders for displaying my garden items. It is a really cheap way to dress up your yard!
